Ask how you are doing

Ask how you are doing before a formal review. Compare recent work with the agreed standard, then ask someone who saw or uses it for feedback. Explain where you are unsure: “In yesterday’s update, was the decision I needed clear?”

Ask for examples when feedback is general. If you disagree, discuss the work and relevant context. Ask your manager to clarify the standard when reviewers expect different things.

Choose a specific change to practice next time: “When I ask for a decision, I will state it at the start of my update.” Record it in your notes.

Thank the person for the feedback, show your next attempt, and ask whether the change addressed their concern.

Where this gets tested You are unclear if your work meets expectations Ask someone who saw or uses your recent work about a specific decision or result.
