Close the Loop With the Feedback Giver

Last Updated:

Return to the person with your response and the evidence behind it. Show a change you made, explain what you will continue after confirmation of effective work, or request correction of inaccurate feedback. If an objection remains unresolved, record it and agree how it will be examined. When you made a change, compare its effect with the concern that prompted it.

Measurable Behaviors

Behaviors are optimized to be directly observable for evidence-based skill tracking.

Ask the giver whether the change landed

Asks whether the change addressed what they raised, learning from the person best placed to judge.

Prompt a teammate to close their own loop with a feedback-giver

Encourages a teammate who acted on feedback to go back and report the change, spreading the practice.

Show the giver the changed work or behavior

Lets the person see the revised work or new behavior rather than only hearing it described.

Tell the giver what you changed after their feedback

Explains the change, confirmed effective practice, or correction of the feedback record, with relevant evidence.

Thank the giver in a way that keeps the door open

Thanks the person for the specific point rather than explaining it away, so they offer the next hard thing.

What Closing the Loop Looks Like

The person explains how they used the feedback and shows relevant evidence. They distinguish a change in the work from confirmation of effective work or correction of the feedback record, and check any unresolved concern.
